17-20th March Sibu trip
[Hotel]Our hotel overall is considered below average. D most astonishing part was when we wanted hot water. We couldn't find electric kettle in our room, there's only a flask sittin on d table. We called up room service & a guy holding a pot of hot water knocked our door. He then transfered d hot water into our flask! This is so hilarious!!! I've never ever encountered such thing in my whole life ... haha. Their hotel rooms use split-level air cond units instead of built-in ones.Very small coffee house which serves very few types of dishes for breakfast.1st day - Toast bread, baked beans, boiled eggs, sausages, plain rice2nd day - Half-boiled eggs, sausages (again), fried noodle, long beans3rd day - Scrambled eggs, sausages (not again?!), porridge, fish (can food) & one more which i cant recall
[Places]I believe Sanyan is d largest shopping mall in Sibu?Thier UCS college... very very big compound!!! The pic might not be big enough to show that the colors of their logo actually is d same as Swinburne's. Hmmm...[Da BIG event]D main reason we were in Sibu is cos of my mum's award ceremony. She received PPT medal on 19th March 2008 from TYT. Dewan Suarah's d place where d event was held. Award recipients & guests were asked to arrived an hour earlier b4 d event started, which was 930 a.m. The arrival of TYT was greeted with live band playing our national anthem Negaraku & Ibu Pertiwiku.Guests were not allowed to take photos when recipients received medals from TYT. Only their assigned photographers were allowed to do so. Hence, we took some photos only after d ceremony ended.Everyone had to be dressed in proper & very formal attire. Dat was also d 1st time i wore a baju kurung.[Food]
Their food is very very cheap. Normally in Kch, if 3 of us were to order 4 types of dishes, it would definitely cost more than RM30. Furthermore we tend to ask them prepare d dishes for 2-ppl instead of 3.We headed to dis market for our 1st dinner in Sibu. Its very similar to our Petanak / Kenyalang market.with 3 starving stomachs, my dad ordered 4 dishes, which are sea cucumber soup, chicken, pork & fried bean sprout. D dishes were good & i would consider d portions more den jus for 3 ppl. P/s Dis pic was taken minutes after 3 of us "attacked" dem. .

We finished every thing! Haha ... Happier part would be d bill. As I've mentioned earlier, if u were to eat 4 dishes like this in Kch, d estimated price is surely more than RM30. with each dishes ranging from RM8 to 10, u'll end up paying RM32-RM40 for d dinner. Ok ... long story cut short. My dad approached d boss to pay for our dinner. He walked back to his seat wif a wide grin cos ... .

My family can be crowned Makan King & Queen when it comes to food. :P And of cos tasting Sibu's famous local delights should not be missed, which include their 'Kam Pua' noodle & kong piah. We brought back around 40-50 pieces of kong piah, 20 for ourselves & d remaining for frens & relatives.Other den dat ... we carried back few plastic bags full of sweets. D special tin bout dem is d shapes n sizes. In Kch, normally they sell these white candies wif black sesame & maybe red bean filling. Sibu turned dem into Heart shapes and also added in diff flavours like chocolate filling, pandan, 'san cha'... - - - - - - - - - -
My dad used to work in Sibu for a year when he was still wif Inland Revenue. Mum spent around 4 years of her childhood days in Sibu as well. 3 of us visited Sibu 2gether many years ago, I was only 9. returning to a place my parens r familiar with is like rewinding d tape inside their brain. Sibu, although a small town, has its own interesting part. Most of d places r within walking distance. We did not use d taxi other den going to Airport & Dewan Suarah. structure of d streets more o less can be linked to India Street / Petaling Street / Carpenter Street.
We spent 3 late evenings in our hotel room as there's not many interesting places to go. Watching tv was d activity we did b4 bed time.
We flew back on 2oth March to Kch. D journey took us approximately 35 minutes, which feels like a car ride. hehe ...
